Yes, that was our assignment, and we let Jim know that he could let the tape go up in smoke, and we’d send him (or send Dr Spock perhaps) off to Bunnings to buy …
one RJ12 to RJ12 telephone cable
… connecting from …
- the designated NBN FTTN (telephone port) connection point (in the new house … doh!) … to …
- the modem’s DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) port
… to complete the hardware requirements.
Organizational wise, yes, you need to tell your (same) ISP you’re moving and taking their modem with you (leaving any NBN owned (connection box) hardware behind), and they will talk plans and activation times etcetera etcetera etcetera.
Other than that, and a call to our ISP for help when we hadn’t picked the exact “designated NBN FTTN (telephone port) connection point”, smooth sailing! (Apart, also, from mistaking RJ12 type of port for RJ45 port … RJ45 is same squareishness, but bigger (and not right for your normal telephone connection going back eons), and comes into play when WAN (wide area network) … oh, never mind!)
What were the symptoms of the DIY (do it yourself) first attempt “hooking up the modem” causing a “power” LED (light-emitting diode) (firm) and “WiFi” LED (blinking) but no successful Internet connection issue, leading to the ISP phone call?
- WiFi connection on the testing device works … but …
- browsing to a website you get an error message with wording like “Server Not Found” (alternate “who you gonna call”)
… and the (excellent (ISP)) advice …
go around the new (doh!) house trying the modem and phone port tests at all the different phone port possibilities, leaving two minutes between all the powerings on and off, until you get a different LED arrangement and we’ll guide you through the rest
… and lo and behold, after one more same symptom failure, the (next) “goldylocks – 1” choice had us with the “DSL” LED (firm) different scenario first off, then, eventually to blinking, followed by the “Internet” LED lighting up to indicate that the NBN FTTN Broadband connection to WiFi was working regarding Internet connections successfully. Yayyyyyy!
